August 2007:
Pip Moss’s 1/48 OA-4M built pretty much OOB from the old Monogram
kit. The cockpit structure behind the rear seat was scratchbuilt to fill
a cavernous void and hide a nasty seam. The wing-mounted LAU-10 unguided
missile launchers came from a Hasegawa weapon set; the centerline fuel
tank came from the Hobbycraft A-4C kit. The plane was painted, using
Model Master enamels, in a transitional tactical scheme from the early
1980s: Dark Ghost Gray 36320, Light Gull Gray 36440, and Light Gray
36495.
September 2007:
Mike O’Keefe’s 1/35 scale Sd.Kfz. 186 Jagdtiger Porsche
production type in the markings of Pz.Jag.Abt. 653 in 1945. Mike added a
metal gun barrel from Eduard and zimmerit from Atak to the DML kit. He
painted it with Testors Model Master acrylics and weathered it with
artist’s oil wash and pastels.

David Hamel’s 1/48 scale P-47D-22 RE in the markings of Kansas
Tornado II piloted by Howard Curran of the 510th FS, 405th FG, 9th AF.
As always, Dave made a lot of improvements to the Tamiya kit. The NMF is
Alclad II; other colors are Model Master enamels. Decals are from
Aeromaster (Dave handpainted corrections to the nose art). He used
brushed-on black pastel for weathering.

Dave Schmidt’s 1/48 P-47D, built mostly OOB from the ancient
Testors kit. Dave re-scribed all the fuselage panel lines and added
hatch covers and the pilot figure. Kit gun barrels and pitot tube were
replaced with plastic and stainless steel tubing respectively. Dave also
scratchbuilt swaybraces for the bomb racks and fuel tank, and the
spinning prop disk. He painted the model with Model Master enamels and
weathered it with oil washes and pastels in various shades of OD. The
decals, from MicroScale, are for a plane flown by Hub Semke, C.O. of the
56th FG, Halesworth, England.Dave Schmidt's 1/48 scale P-47D.
